Labyrinth walk: Saturday October 24, 2015 from 09:30 - 11:30

I will draw a labyrinth on Saturday October 24, 2015, however, I'm not sure where I will draw. That is, I will draw either on Spanish Banks or on Sunset Beach. My decision of where to draw will depend on the weather: if the weather prediction for that Saturday is cool but relatively calm, I will draw on Spanish Banks; if, however, the weather is predicted to be windy with colder temperatures, I will draw on Sunset Beach, close to the Aquatic Centre in Vancouver.

Nonetheless, I will post the location by Wednesday October 21, 2015.

Cost: by donation.

In the spirit of reciprocity and gratitude, please bring a gift to offer to the Sacred in Nature such as flowers, coffee beans, etc. These will be used to create a mandala in the centre of the labyrinth

Reminder:

You may need to cross shallow tide pools to arrive at the labyrinth location, so please come prepared and dress for the weather.

“Asking the proper question is the central action of transformation- in fairy tales, in analysis, and in individuation. The key question causes germination of consciousness. The properly shaped question always emanates from an essential curiosity about what stands behind. Questions are the keys that cause the secret doors of the psyche to swing open.”

Labyrinth walk: Sunday July 26, 2015 from 9 to 11 am at Spanish Banks, Vancouver BC, Canada

May the roots of suffering diminish.
May warfare, violence, neglect, indifference, and addiction also decrease.
May the wisdom and compassion of all beings increase, now and in the future.
May we clearly see all the barriers we erect between ourselves and others to be as insubstantial as our dreams.
May we appreciate the great perfection of all phenomena.
May we continue to open our hearts and minds, in order to work ceaselessly for the benefit of all beings.
May we go to the places that scare us.
May we lead the life of a warrior.”

Labyrinth walk: Saturday July 11, 2015 from 9 to 11 am at Spanish Banks, Vancouver BC, Canada

“Sometimes the one who is running from the Life/Death/Life nature insists on thinking of love as a boon only. Yet love in its fullest form is a series of deaths and rebirths. We let go of one phase, one aspect of love, and enter another. Passion dies and is brought back. Pain is chased away and surfaces another time. To love means to embrace and at the same time to withstand many endings, and many many beginnings- all in the same relationship.”

Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Summer Solstice Labyrinth 'walk:' Sunday June 21, 2015 from 3:30 to 5:30 at Spanish Banks, Vancouver BC Canada.

Solstice is an astronomical event
It is a time or day 'betwixt and between' spring and summer
Thus it is a liminal time or day
So come to the beach and walk a labyrinth
Betwixt and between the high and low water marks
Experience Liminal time:
A ’storehouse of . . . (your) . . . possibilities’ are waiting for you.

CANCELED: Labyrinth Event: Sunday April 19th from 1 to 3 pm at Spanish Banks, Vancouver, BC

I am cancelling the labyrinth event scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday April 19th, 2015 from 1 to 3 pm at Spanish Banks, due to conflicting information about the recent oil spill in English Bay and the safety of the beach. The media is reporting that the beaches are safe right now, however, Vancouver Coastal Health website still advises caution about the area below the high tide line. Since I draw the labyrinth between the high and low tide line, I feel uncomfortable proceeding with this event.

I am planning to draw next on Saturday May 2, 2015 and will host a labyrinth event from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on that day. This date corresponds with the Labyrinth Societies: World Labyrinth Day. Please see a link to their website on this Blog and come and walk with us.

Labyrinth Event: Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 3 to 5 pm Vancouver BC, Canada.

I have come to drag you out of yourself
and take you into my heart.
I have come to bring out the beauty
you never knew you had
and lift you like a prayer to the sky.
If no one can recognize you, I do
because you are my life & soul.
Don't run away; accept your wounds
and let bravery be your shield.
It takes a thousand stages
for the perfect being to evolve.
Every step of the way I will walk with you
and never leave you stranded.
Be patient; do not open the lid too soon.
Simmer away until you are ready.
In this game I make the rules.
I roll you like a ball
and chase you when I choose.
~ Rumi

I am undecided where I will draw a labyrinth for this event, however, the low tide time will shift soon and make it possible to draw in the afternoon. It may be on Sunset Beach in English Bay or on Spanish Banks, depending on the weather. While I do prefer to draw on Spanish Banks, it can be chilly to be out there during this time of the year.  So I will check the weather forecast around February 14th and if the forecast is calling for cooler weather, I will draw on Sunset Beach. Please check back after the 14th for confirmation of the location of the labyrinth if you would like to come and 'walk.'

About Me

My photo
Walking a Labyrinth is like accepting an invitation to pray, meditate, contemplate, dream, celebrate or play; a place to find inspiration, satisfy a curiosity, examine metaphor, mythology or simply, a place to explore liminal space: a 'betwixt and between' place. . . Victor W Turner has described liminality as "a fructile chaos, a storehouse of possibilities, not a random assemblage but a striving after new forms and structures, a gestation process." Labyrinths are drawn on the foreshore, betwixt the nearshore and the backshore, between the low and high water marks to present liminal space as a physical location. Labyrinths may also be drawn during liminal time: dusk or dawn and/or solstice or equinox. The flags surrounding the labyrinth are used for a couple reasons: first they help people find the labyrinth at Spanish Banks. Next, they are used to create a natural acoustic environment. This auditory experience or sound scape ecology is intended to alter the perception and/or the perspective of visitors while they are walking the labyrinth.
